Veto This, You Twat

Motherfucker.

Every goddamned bloated spending bill that came across Bush 's desk he signed. Every inflated foreign aid project he signed. Every single piece of shit bill that came across that idjit's desk he signed. Seriously It's like we have a mad liberal at the nation's purse-strings. The guy is like a drunken sorority girl; he just can't say no.
I'm a Republican, and I can't stand the guy. He's mortgaging the nation's future on all of his quixotic daydreams. Fuck.

Stop the presses - He just vetoed his first; the stem-cell bill. For some reason God's friends have a huge stick up their collective ass about using genetic waste (and that's what it is) for medical research. These embryonic stem cells aren't gonna grow up to be good little Christian babies, they're going right into the dumpster. So, what's the big fucking deal here? My grandmother died of cancer, & you're saying that globs of goo are more precious than human life? Fuck you.

Now he's doing a press conference on CNN surrounded by dumpy lookin' Middle-Americans holding screaming babies. Fuck that guy.
I hope those babies have to suck cock behind the dumpster of a strip club to pay for their medical procedures twenty years down the road. That's probably why they're crying - they see their future of degenerative disease, and hopeless struggle in a bankrupt nation.
Jesus Christ, someone shut them the fuck up.

I don't understand why we are still debating this issue. There have been methods suggested to obtain stem cells sans eternal damnation for at least a year. WTF?!?

I thought 'mortgaging the future' was part of the platform?

Jesus, those fucking nutters just don't quit do they?

If they're so worried about potential sperm and egg cells, I'll one-up 'em and mail them a crate full of used tampons and spankerchiefs.
Let 'em deal with the real thing

They're just worried that illegal immigrants will come and steal our gametes and use them to create a legion of bambinos y bambinas that will sing the national anthem en espanol.

DC re: genetic waste...this is not the only option for the frozen embroys. While it sounds fucked up there are the snowflake families...and even dopey old NPR reminds us they were physically behind the president today at his first veto party(?):

"On a riser behind the president were people who call themselves "snowflake" families. They've adopted frozen embryos that would have been discarded in fertility clinics, using the embryos to have children. Many of them were holding small children in their arms. President Bush posed with them after delivering his remarks."

Those who call themselves conservatives and others who object to part of the processes fertility clinics engage in...including the production of "spare" embroys know a big part of the battle is lost and the prevailing construct of reproductive rights has made America accept the notion of embryonic material that is to be destroyed in the process of getting the baby for the parents paying through the nose (and out the something else) for the full actualization of their reproductive rights.

But neither g bushy, or those who oppose embryonic stem cell research are saying 'We'd rather throw the damned things away, fuck you Michael J. Fox.' (although that would be sort of funny)

and it's an oversimplification to say that g bushy and the blue blue ties just want to stand in the way of science...as I understand it, there would have been an opportunity for a signable bill if time hadn't run out in the House...

There is also a sense when one compares alternative proposals that consider obtaining researchable materials from stem cells and adult marrow or whatever the fuck (we are quickly reaching the limits of my scientific knowledge) - there is a desire on the part of embryonic stem cell research advocates to want all or nothing at all with these proposals...

in the states too...as far as I understand it.

It might be possible to say there are those in both sides of the aisle standing in the way of opening up all possible avenues of research. Why does all the so-called open minded legislation put all the emphasis on embryonic stem cells...and don't tell me there is anyone who knows w/ metaphysical certitude (or in this case, physical certitude) that the only source of pluriopotent, totipotent, omnipotent whatever cells are only going to be sucessfully developed in embryos bound for the dumpster (not Ryan Dempster, he couldn't throw anything in something as small as a dumpster)...

What do we know about the problems of organ donation? Rejection of the foreign organ (not illegal immigrants bigSoda) by the recipient - - Right? That's why those who get certain organ transplants have to injest medicines/poisons that will allow them to accept the foreign organ until the toxins build up to a certain level that they have to go off the meds and back on a new transplant list

Some will have you believe that this is precisely the reason for embryonic stem cell research...

To which I say, it makes a great case for research in using adult stem cells, so the patient can be their own donor...possibly - POSSIBLY (I don't know it fer sure either) POSSIBLY the rejection issue.

The debates over when life begins in the Senate and the House are pointless (I agree)...those aren't the issues on which this question hinges

Again, great post, love the fire but Gundy and I are sort of in each other's pants on this issue.

Ok, now that's fucking disgusting.

I'm vetoing myself.

bigsoda said...

Well, that's pretty much the point I was trying to make. There are other options which is why this is just another empty act (like building a fucking fence next to Mexico) to garner votes with the people stupid enough to think that scientists are trying to eat our babies. I mean, come on! Wake up, people!

edP said...

What if we could pay for the Mexi-fence with advertising?

And what's with all this me and you agreeing on the blogs bigSoda? I think you just miss me.

edP said...

I meant possibly eliminating the rejection issue...it's bad enough I don't fully understand the science, now I can't seem to write in a way that will clearly communicate my ignorance.

DC Liar said...

Snowflake families, my aching ass. Sounds like a bunch of Colombian drug cartels, if you ask me.

God knows there aren't enough children in the world today that need a loving home.
What your argument boils down to is that a bunch of Naperville fuckers would rather grave-rob the embryo bank than explain a brown child to their neighbors.

Maybe we could just use all of the unwanted ethnic kids for medical research. They might be alive, but it's not much of a life.

edP said...

No, all I am saying is that some who oppose embryonic stem cell research are fighting a larger battle against something they find as horrific as the "unwanted ethnic kid" (I'll just assume you mean by ethnic, Slovenian - - that's me all over)

I still think my main point is a good one, there are cockblockers of science on both sides of this question...not just our g bushy...

In a way, if one of the alternative House proposals made it through (again as I understand it)...it would not have limited federal funding to embryonic stem cell research...it would open the door to further research for adult stem cells (presumably from Ron Jeremy, Jenna Jameson etc...you just know they've got a lot of genetic material floating around out there)

...but D's (and those R's that really want to fight a certain wing of their own party) seemed to want an embryonic stem cell bill that the President couldn't sign.

How very proscience that.

I am a fucking idiot.

DC Liar said...

Oh, and I've kept up on all of the advances in this field, but I still feel that all of the fear-mongering hocus-pocus is gonna queer the whole field of study. And we all know how those bible-thumpers feel about "queer".
I'm of the all-or-nothing school of thought on this one. Why allow a token sacrifice if it taints the entire field of study.

[Insert "taints" joke here]

DC Liar said...

Ed's right on this point: It's all a bunch of political posturing; but then again, what comes out of DC that isn't?

Kim said...

I'm too dull-witted currently to read and understand what ya'll are saying here (Ye Gads, why do I insist on Posting and Commenting in the wee hours when I'm not awake? It's " a behavior," perhaps.)

What gets my ass clenched is HERE is where Bush chooses to lay down his Veto law -- HERE. I rather disagree that he's been signing everything that comes his way, at least in regards to social services, etc. I could do my job (attempting to find affordable housing for low-income folks) a HELL of alot better if housing was affordable. God knows women who escape to DV shelters can usually never make on their own, due to impossibility of finding affordable housing ... okay, I'll stop there.

Point: HERE is where Bush grows some balls -- to "protect" as Josh says, medical waste (assinine -- take my placenta, please, says I!) and apparently Snowflake babies.

I loves the babies, but we have actual living, breathing, suffering people who he consistantly doesn't seem to give a rat's ass about -- including those who are suffering from cancer, etc. who could benefit.

Why he picks placentas and snowflakes as his giant crusade of playing Savior while all around him people suffer, I can't fathom.

Michael K said...

Bush is just doing this because he thinks God wants him to. Faith is a bitch in politics.

Snowflake families can eat my ass hair. If the dear lord did not see fit to make you or your spouse fertile, adopt. In an overcrowded world, why the fuck should we allow people to go through all these alternative methods to become pregnant in the first place? Ban the entire practice and the whole issue is moot. Done and done.

One can be their own stem cell transplant donor in some cases. Stem cells are harvested, the immune system is partially or completely wiped out and the stem cell are then infused back into the patient in hopes that the stem cells with kick start a new healthy immune system. This is called an autologus transplant.

MK - "Bush is just doing this because he thinks God wants him to."

No. I sincerely believe that Bush is not concerned with God. He just wants the voters to think he is.

And OH how I wish the snowpunk families could have been surrounded (and perhaps pummeled) by scores of brown and/or disabled children ... or children with nasty facial scars, or juvenile records, or ....

As I understand the bill, though (which of course I have not read), it's only about federal funding - not about making the science itself illegal. In fact, I understand the fed gov already provides some funding, it's just limited to older (pre-grandstanding) embryos. Presumably, then, the drug co's are all over it, because naturally they will be the ones yanking stuff from our nether regions and then selling it back to us.

edP said...

Michael got an important component of my point when he said:

"Ban the entire practice and the whole issue is moot. Done and done."

Those who oppose the practice know it will not be done away with because there's money in them thar reproductive rights and...what's the old expression - Ya can't make an omlet without breakin'' a few eggs

I'm sure not all the snowflake families represent the kind of advocacy I'm describing...some just want white babies...I'll admit it...but I want readers of my friend's thoughtful blog here to see that it goes to far to say that vetoing stem cell research means flush 'em and forget it!

This is a potential crisis on a variety of fronts.

bigsoda said...

I gotta go with Jeanz on this one and say that neither side in this media stunt (proposers or "the decider") give half a rat's ass about people (living or potential) beyond their ability to dangle a chad.

edP said...

Dear Jeanz, why do you say this:

"No. I sincerely believe that Bush is not concerned with God. He just wants the voters to think he is."

What is Bush running for? He isn't helping very many Republicans with his stance on this issue either. Sen. Babygotbrownback is going to win because he is from where he is from - not because g bushy took this stand. He sure as fuck isn't helping (or maybe he is in a backasswards way) the Arlen Specters and "progressive, pro-science" (words ill-used on purpose and misspelled possibly by accident) Republicans

If anyone has tried to make this a voting issue on the Hill it's the D's - Sen Diane F. was quick to tell the president "Don't make this your first veto..." and every D has done the same thing...as if their support of federal funding here demostrates unity and division on the part of the D's and division for the R's.

Gimme a break...

edP said...

I meant unity on the part of the D's and division on the part of the R's...y'all know what I meant

Shit.

You're right to call me on that, edp. I have no real footing to claim anything about the state of the man's faith beyond merely observing that his behavior is in complete discord with my understanding of Christianity. That said, with his approval rating at 1/2%, if GB turned around and said, "screw you people, especially you pulpit pounders, I can't stand a single one of you and I never could" - which is what I suspect the truth is - he'd be packing up his china by the end of the month.

edP said...

I wasn't trying to defend Bush's faith...he left that behind when he instigated the war in Irock...all his domestic programs (thank God) are dead...taking a stand isn't going to revive them in the mind of any of the R's...and he is not pursuing votes...there is a human, political and a "government as the thing that defines what constitutes humanity and its opposite in research here"

and I don't think this is the same kind of issue as the bullshit gay marriage stuff or flag burning crap

even though the debate on the Hill over when life begins is garbage...I'm glad g bushy uses the veto here if for no other reason than to say, let the states decide it we won't endorse this process

And again, I think something is at sake (not just morally here) but something is at stake for science

Re:"I don't understand why we are still debating this issue."

I was at the congressional hearing that debated the stem cell issue. The methods they reference in the article are solely theoretical. No one has ever validated them and the scientific community is split as to whether or not these alternative methods are viable. From my understanding at the hearing, this was an attempt by those opposed to "meet halfway."

Michael K said...

I am soooooo happty our Gov decided to give Bush the finger by appropriating more state funding for stem cell research. Suck it!

Also, the idea of holding on to all these unneeded embryos because they should be used for more babies we don't need would be like saying we shouldn't use transplanted tissue because the deceased will need it in heaven. Some religions actually believe that shit.

Finally, I think we can get past all this if you say "I am donating my embryos for stem cell research." or "I am donating my stem cells solely for the creation of other babies." How easy is that?

Anonymous said...

Was talking to Jeanne about this post, and we both agreed you get major props for calling the president a Twat.

edP said...

See, Meat Head's distinction may be an important one here. I assume the "article" he mentions is one of the pieces from gundy's blog. Maybe Meat Head could explain what makes embryonic stem cell research so much more promising and why obtaining stem cells from these other sources are not validated or why the scientific community is split on adult sources being used or pursued.

Help us out Meat Head
